The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel is the only road access to Whittier. It's a single-lane passage that alternates direction — plan accordingly.

Arrive 10 Min Early
Get to the tunnel staging area at least 10 minutes before your scheduled opening. If you miss it, you'll wait 30+ minutes for the next slot.
Train Priority
The Alaska Railroad shares the tunnel. Scheduled and unscheduled trains may cause 15–30 minute delays. Build buffer time into your trip.
Vehicle Rules
Motorcycle helmets must be worn inside the tunnel. Convertibles must have tops up. Oversize vehicles have restricted hours (Mon–Thu only).
We cannot hold tours for missed tunnels & there are no refunds.
